They put out pretty fair heat. The secret is to keep all other outside air out.

Better than a candle. Dress warm. Folks were more rugged back then.

I have an aluminum version that heats equivalent to a small candle. I also have a cast iron version that is somewhat warmer. While not the type that goes on an original manifold, I had an integral one piece heater manifold (forget the brand) that produced so much heat you had to close the butterfly door to a third on cold days!

Mine works great here in N. CA. On a cool day,40-50 you need a window open if the heater door is full open. If you live where it gets cold, well, I don't know.

I have an Autolite heater. I would like to find a genuine Autolite door to go with it.

I put the cast iron Autolite with the waffle manifold on the phaeton many years ago. It has worked quite well, even on an open car.

Although I haven't tried one, a heater on a stock manifold will definitely have limitations. The non-Ford manifold heaters include their own manifold with substantially more surface area to transfer heat.

I have a waffle type manifold heater on the Town Sedan. Once warmed up it throws out enough heat in the dead of winter to need the windows open. I take the scoop off during the summer.

Are Autolite manifolds still available? I know that the scoops are from the normal suppliers, but what about the manifolds? If so where can one obtain one?

Swap meets and ads in various publications including on the ford barn.....usually the manifold will need to be planed and checked with a straight edge,,,,,,, they can be found.... keep looking.. i have not seen that were being reproduced.....

MIne works well, Just an add on on top of the original muffler. In the summer, I plug the forward end with a wad of aluminum foil, Keeps the air from heating the firewall door. John
