Default Question - C59A Generator Lubrication

Just installed the generator on my engine and was thinking of what to use to lubricate the rear bearing. Came across this thread.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1443269

In one of the posts they mention “cups”. This got me thinking - there is no cup for the front bearing. I see two holes that are aligned on the front bearing/motor support. Is there supposed to be a cup or a tube/cup in those holes? I seem to recall that I purchased a cup from Third Gen. Will have to check.

No point in forcing oil in there if it now has a sealed bearing fitted which many would have these days. The commutator end bush needs a couple of drops of engine oil each time you change the engine oil. Regards, Kevin.

That makes sense. It was rebuilt a few years ago. Didn’t pay much attention to the front bearing when it was disassembled, but it was likely a sealed bearing. IIRC now, the cup I purchased previously from 3rd Gen was for my Helmet style distributor. Thanks for the advice.

I seem to recall the front bearing on a generator is a bush also.

Back when I worked as an auto elec through college, we would place the bushing on the thumb, fill it with oil and squeeze on the top of the bush 'till it 'sweated' oil.

Once it was loaded it would then be installed.
