Where can I get 6 volt led bulbs for a 33 in Australia ?

Yes I have used them in my 34 Ford 6volt system. The dash and park lamps are good. But the headlamps throw the light around all over the place and are very bright, but are rather voltage sensitive. When I put my foot on the brake pedal with stop lights coming on then the headlights go dimmer. Seems with the 6 volt Leds there is a low voltage threshold which dims them a lot in one step rather than them gradually going dimmer as the voltage reduces.. I dont really like that effect so I have put back the 50/32 bulbs I had in originally.. I have the standard 34 ford 3 brush generator with the round FUN PROJECTS voltage regulator fitted in place of the round Ford cut out. I have the third brush set at a maximum of about 15 amps which covers the headlights and ignition current draw. Also dont like the Leds in the stop/tail lights because they are very directional as in if you place yourself slightly to the side of the lamp the Leds appear quite dull. Not as good as one would expect. But if you want to waste your money and try them then go for it. Just my opinion and observations. Regards, Kevin.

Thanks for the heads up Kevin. I mainly wanted to get away from headlights dimming when braking or backing off, seems like lED are just as bad.
I also have a 3rd brush gen and a fun projects reg. but I have the gen set at 12amps maybe I should increase it a bit. Would relays help the situation ?.

If the wiring and grounding are up to specifications, you should be able to set the third brush at a very low amperage output and all LED bulbs will be bright under all conditions. From what is described in the prior posts, I suspect there are some grounding or wiring issues. LED bulbs essentially work in a binary fashion, once over the threshold voltage, they don't get any brighter, but under the threshold voltage they are dim or don't work.

I have found that LEDs when used with stock taillamp lenses they are no better than the standard bulb.

Me too. At least on the ‘40 with lenses that face the sky.

Here are comparison pics at night, from 20 ft behind the car. One pic is an LED recommend on this forum, other is an HP incandescent. I see no difference. Both are terrible from behind a ‘40.

Led being no better or slightly worse than the 6v original bulb was the same conclusion my friend reached with his 36 coupe. Frank you know who you are ! Seems the led doesn’t really radiate light and allow for reflection inside the tail lamp housing. It’s too bad. But I do think a third brake light bar would work well at the rear window.

Drivers today are accustomed to seeing a 3rd brake light. I put LED head and tail lights in my '35 Fordor, but also wanted a 3rd brake light. After a bit of searching I found this unit - its called Bike Spark. Its a wireless (USB rechargable) auto sensing tail and brake light. It is made for bicycles, but I adapted it to two large magnets. I made one for my '35 and another for my '31 model A pickup. It is very bright, lasts a long time on a charge and is easily removable.

I bought mine off ebay, but here is their web site.

That looks really cool! Is it hooked up to the car’s wiring or brake switch or is it independent;does it just sense motion change?

It is wireless. It turns on the tail light when it senses motion and brake light come on when it senses deceleration. It is made to clamp on a bicycle seat post, but I adapted magnets to it.
