Also remove the aluminum rear oil slinger part before you hot tank the block.

Most shops will not put babbitt or bearing metal in their hot tanks. It degrades the solution.
You need to strip it before hand.

Amen, and aluminum pistons do a good job of making an aluminum plating tank out
of your hot tank. Had one of my guys put a set of pistons and rods in the tank over night
with a block. The block was plated in the morning and the pistons didn't look so good....

P.S. No more hot tank in good old California any more, when I moved it couldn't so pressure
wash tank now takes twice as long and doesn't get it off as well....

Most hot tanks use a costic cleaner that will eat Babbitt and aluminum, some jet washers use it, most shops have both, the jet washer does a good job if they have good strong soap and clean there washer before it's full of crap. Ask em if there cleaning machine hurts aluminum before they ruin you Babbitt. Most shops don't use costic tanks any more because it cost to much get rid of the dirty soluation, I remember 30 yr's ago before I become (retarded) retired, it used to cost 50bucks a barrel to get rid of the stuff, I'm sure it's a lot more now. Then we went to baking ovens, that will really melt the Babbitt. Walt

The shop we use can set the block in just up to the babbitt. Leaves the bottom 2 or so inches uncleaned. Ask your shop they might be able to do the same thing.

That cleaning stuff is so caustic, won't the 'fumes' ruin the Babbitt anyway
