5150,
That is a awesome truck. He is asking a good buck for it. Has all the goodies too!
Just not my favorite colors. But a super clean looking truck for sure! And from a place where the rust is not nearly as bad!
Regards,
Chris

Chris,

I can't tell from the photo, but does what is left of your outer cowl trim panel fabric have a 'chicken track' pattern like on your firewall insulator? If so, durable replacements in fiberglass can be obtained from "restorations and reproductions" in Portland, OR.

David,
Looks like a wood grain pattern, on the material that remains.
Thank you for the contact on the material.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Still in maple sales mode. Again at Asbury Woods in Erie tomorrow.
My beautiful wife at our booth:

Many visitors today sampled and took our products home.

Hope things are good in Ford land. The 32 waits!
Regards,
Chris

Bob,
Yes it is maple cotton candy! (a mixture of maple sugar Domino white sugar, then spun in our cotton candy machine and stuffed into these 32 oz. tubs) It is for sure a different taste with the maple flavor coming through each bite!(nothing like the blue or pink at the local fairs) I gave several to some youngsters that wanted it but the parents couldn't afford to get it for them, or didn't want them to have! I am so bad! They loved it! Made my day!
Regards,
Chris

Maybe you could modify this sign to say "Maple Cotton Candy" instead of Espresso?

Ford Folks,
The last of the maple sap tubing systems was collected and hung in the sugarhouse. Friend Dale helped me get that accomplished. We visited and then took the 32 for a 2 mile ride in the dark. It preformed pretty well except for a death wobble several time. I believe as you folks suggested early on that I need to really look at the steering components for wear.
Any suggestions as to where to start would be appreciated.
I suspect it may be mostly in the link coming from the bottom of the steering box forward. I know for sure there is some looseness in both ends.

Regards,
Chris

Chris,

I suggest that you start with the steering box and drag link between the Pitman arm and the axle spindle by removing the drag link and examining the wear within the components inside each end of the drag link. Follow that by examining for out-of-round ball studs on the Pitman arm and spindle.

Center the steering wheel (with the drag link removed previously) and check for side-to-side free play in the Pitman arm. There should be very little or none in the straight ahead position of the steering wheel.

Next examine the components in the ends of the spindle tie rod as you did with the drag link as well as the ball studs to which the tie rod attaches at the spindles.

Since you changed tires not that long ago, likely you checked the condition of the front wheel bearings and their proper tightness when you did so. If not, add it to the list.

Having done all of the above, you will then know what to address to bring your steering control up to snuff./

David,
Thanks for the instructions on the steering check up! I hope to get to that in the next week. Weather is getting nice and I would like to get it out , but these steering things need review.
Regards
Chris

Burnette, folks,
Wow, we have heard the peepers and had several warm rains. The soft maples are red with buds, the hard maples are several weeks away. With the tubing hung in the sugarhouse for another year, I can start to think about other projects too.
Hope your maple season is good! Are you a producer?

On the 32:
Last night I decided to try to reduce the play in the steering. On both ends of the link from the bottom of the steering box to the front. I removed the cotter pins and screwed the adjuster feature in ward. Then greased those joints and added some grease to the steering box. It seemed like it did help, but the real test will be out on the road.
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Well the adjustments in the steering did not hurt. But did not eliminate the wobble. So there are some other issues, which in no way surprises me about this 90 year old truck with 100K miles on it!
Cooper and I took it for a ride today, and at fairly slow speed all was good and and no problems with steering. It was no worse for sure!
Hope things are good in Ford land!
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Over in my other world. We bought a Allis D14 yesterday.

On the 32: I did talk with the machinist at the tractor auction and he said he is going to try to do the line boring of the block this week. He said he has the crank completed. We move forward. I may not have it ready for the June 12 car show it Waterford PA, but that is a soft goal of mine.

Regards,
Chris

Nice score on the tractor. Unlike my affinity for ford trucks, I have no allegiance to any particular tractor brand, ( Now in tractor-world THAT'S blasphemy). I have had JD, Ford, Farmall, White, even a Kubota, but the Kubota was boring because I never had to fix it. I traded it for the '82 Case skidsteer with a 3 cyl Italian air cooled diesel called a Slanzi. That one isn't so boring.... Case built these things with a Renault 4 cyl gas engine. Ick.

The blade looks like it will be perfect for pushing snow next winter. Nice tractor.
