New Tudor - Inspection Importance
Just wanted to post a quick message related to my new to me 30 Tudor. Upon inspection, I found that their was no cotter pin in the main brake rod pin coming off the brake pedal. Yikes!
I can't imagine the experience if that pin had fallen off while driving, especially if the wife was in the passenger seat! |

Re: New Tudor - Inspection Importance
Hence the need for a thorough inspection of a newly acquired Model "A." I failed to do a good inspection on my Victoria when I acquired it, and I soon paid my idiot dues. The hub nut threads on the left rear axle were stripped, so only a cotter pin kept the wheel on the car. The cotter pin failed while negotiating a corner and the left wheel came off! That was the only time one of my Model "A's" rode home on a flat bed!

Re: New Tudor - Inspection Importance
I once bought a restored 30 pickup that had been sitting in a carport for a long time. I towed it home with a tow bar. Drivers side rear wheel came off, on the way home.

Yes, inspections are necessary. When you buy a car, if you are not a Model A gear head, bring someone along who is.
Toad: Glad you caught this. Inspections also pertain to any work you do on the car. Double check to make sure you put the cotter keys back in, tighten the fasteners, install all the plugs, etc. Don't ask me how I know.

I discovered the nuts on the passenger side rear wheel only finger tight. No biggy as I checked them all before I drove it.

During the Model A time period they were called emergency brakes and not parking brakes as they are called today, so it is important to make certain the emergency brake system works well. |
