Default Rear motor mounts will not come off the frame

What is the deal here? No tool in the box will budge these rear motor/trans mount cups -- it's like they're welded or otherwise fused to the bracket. Are they? I've already half destroyed one. Next step would be air chisel.

Drive a screwdriver between the cup & the crossmember.

Why do you have to remove them. Just insert the new motor mount rubber in the old cups along with the rest of the new motor mount without the bottom cup that comes with the new mount kit.

Makes sense to me...

That's a good idea. I just assumed they would come off without much fuss. Even wedging a prybar between the cup and bracket and pounding hard doesn't move them at all.

Update. Each cup was spot welded to the cross bracket in 3 spots. I drilled out the welds which allowed removal with robust but reasonable effort.

Chuck41: Just curious........ did the bottom cup flange fit snugly into the motor mount holes remaining after you removed the tack welded factory cups? Here's motor mount :

Thanks.

No, the cup flange of the new mounts is maybe 1/32" shy of the diameter of the holes, so there is a little play.

Thanks for the reply Chuck41. The reason I asked is because I was worried about the motor mount biscuit assembly having too much play and being able to move forward and backward. Seems like you are "go to go."

New mounts receiving the transmission I rebuilt with Van Pelt's parts and his indispensable book. My son and I got the clutch and transmission bolted up without much angst. Very satisfying.
