pleats in 46/48 ford seats
Does anyone know if the vertical pleats sown into the seat backs of the closed cars ( mines a super Deluxe club cpe) are continued down onto the seat cushions. Some pictures I've seen do and some don't. I'm unsure what is correct.
Thanks GB

Re: pleats in 46/48 ford seats
My Canadian Ford Merc 1946 Body Catalog shows only the seat cushion with no pleats on the Fords and 4 pleats sewn in each side on the Merc. No seat backs shown. ..B.

Re: pleats in 46/48 ford seats
I still have the original upholstery for my seats and there are no pleats on the seat.

This is from an ad for a '46. But, they also show the seat bottoms without. This ad is for a '47. As I look into this further, it appears that the '46 had the straps on the seat but the '47 & '48 did not as shown in my photo of my original upholstery. I looks like your coupe is a '47 so no straps would be correct.

Re: pleats in 46/48 ford seats
I just remembered the definitive source of all knowledge - the 1941-48 Ford Book by The Early Ford V-8 Club of America. Here's their information about the 47-48 upholstery (that is, in fact, different from the '46)
Here are their fabric samples of the fabric used for the '47-'48 upholstery: This book would be well worth having. Get it here: https://www.earlyfordv8.org/store-pr...fm?id=21&pid=2

Re: pleats in 46/48 ford seats
The N.Z Canadian 1946 - 48 Ford cars were assembled at the Seaview Ford Plant at Wellington, and as far as I know thats where they were upholstered. All of these original models I have seen back to 40 years ago, either had imitation leather or a bedford cord type of material on the seats and no pleats. I actually upholstered my coupe in a draylon material.

Re: pleats in 46/48 ford seats
Old Henry thanks , you have given me the answer. The photo of your seat looks like mine except as Ian NZ says our material was a thin "needle Bedford Cord". The upholsterer has taken my seats we were looking at them and could see the vertical pleats on the seat back but the material on the cushion was so stuffed we couldn't make out if they were repeated there, he seemed to think probably not.
Thanks to all who replied. GB
