Default Is rusty t. Stat housing useable?

Here's my thermostat housing. It's got rust inside and around the hose end. On the end the rust isn't soft or holey but rough. I'll be installing a new thermostat of course but not sure if this should be replaced. I also have rust in the intake manifold that you can't get to. Any advice?

I would clean all surfaces with a wire wheel, then re-evaluate the gasket surface. If you have an electric sander, go over that surface with some medium paper to flatten it. On the intake, use a stainless tooth brush, then the sand paper on a flat board. Stay away from silicone.

As said above but you may want to perform Reverse Electrolysis on it (google it) as well. For any pitting you may be concerned about a wee bit of JB Weld would be fine I’m sure.

Consider electrolysis if you do not have a blast cabinet. While it may be overkill for the housing, it may help with the intake manifold or any other parts that need rust removal. I have a blog post about this - https://www.hotrodreverend.com/post/...haust-manifold
