Default Sticky cut out

Is there a fix for a sticky cut out? About 1/2 the time the points will stick closed on my "new" cut out. If I thump the cover with your knuckle then they will open. Kind of a pain having to check it every time I shut the car off.

install a diode and be done with it. Original cutouts can still be found that work.

My generator has the newer electronic cutout and works great. No more crappy, unreliable service from those cheap cutouts.

A cleaning and adjusting of an original should correct that problem. The originals work well.

I've installed the low cost diodes from Brattons and Snyders . The diodes are less than ten dollars and work well . For me the Snyders diode installs easier in the old repro cutouts . Brattons diode installs easist in the original cutouts. Both have easy to follow instructions. It is necessary to gut the cut out . I use rosin core solder and an electric soldering gun . Rosin core solder doesn't run off like acid core solder and doesn't require flux . Surfaces must be clean !!! A much better choice is the Fun Projects can style voltage regulator,It acts like a modern regulator and there is no points to stick Try www.funprojects.com

What I like about using a diode, if the battery becomes fully charged it blocks feed back to the generator which will burn up the generator. When I was a young man I had a 1934 Ford; if on a long drive during daylight hours I would turn on my headlights to keep the battery from becoming fully charged to protect the generator.

For sticking originals, increasing the air gap, slightly & increasing the spring pressure, slightly, will help. "Sometimes" the sticking is caused by RESIDUAL MAGNETISM & those adjustments help them "break" apart.
When I worked on Volvos, this was a common problem with Bosch Relays. They make GREAT "special" purpose relays, as each different type, has the CIRCUITRY, embossed on the cover.
