Default Model A Floorboard - Battery Cover Plate

On page 11-3 of JS it states that the when the plywood floorboards were introduced (March 1929) the battery cover plate width was widened to 5 1/4.

Was the narrower cover plate (4 1/8) ever used with plywood floorboards? I have a May 1929 and I am pretty certain my are original floorboards made of plywood yet the 4 1/8 width hole is present.

Anyone else seen this?

Mine is a 29 with plywood floors and has a 4 1/8 plate. I can't say for certain if it is the original floor board.

Im really confused by this one it would seem they would change the opening for the battery box cover (size/orientation) at the same time they moved the gearshift lever position.

What am I missing?
