And yes I did tell you I was going to be leaving here Wednesday afternoon but realized this morning that wasn't going to work. My cleaning person was here from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. She was supposed to be here on Tuesday but her schedule had to be altered to accommodate her fiancee. And the last thing I want to do is stand in the way of true love. Those 2 won't be in heat forever and at some point they're gonna get hit with a dose of reality. But for now I changed my schedule for them. |

Sounds good. See you when I get there. I've got the draglink in the back of the truck with the wheels. Haven't been this jittery for a road trip since I ran the 30 klix from Dong Ha to Khe Sanh with bladders of Av gas on a 5 ton straight truck.

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
So the wayfarer is on his way home after a nice breakfast overlooking Lake Michigan just after the sunrise. Beautiful!! So for one dollar and other considerations we made a really fair trade for 5 really clean wire wheels, huibs, and hoops. Starting the switch today. Inboard races were gonners so I am switching those as we speak. Will get these guys loosely mounted today and pick up some luh nuts at the swap meet sunday in chrome of course. We went to crack auto this morning for lug nuts at $2.99 ea, and of course theyre the turbo extreme lug nuts with a spline drive blah blah blah that;; strand you with a flat because the special socket is long gone. I walked away on those. Already shopping for some retro bullet lugs... Pretty cool eh?? ws

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
Hey, those wheels look pretty good on that T. It looks better with some rubber on it. Once you get that thing together you'll have to get someone to paint a bee on it similar to the ones they use to put on the Mopar Super Bees. Or not!!! I'll try to see if Kevin's got email and forward the pictures of your wood wheels and tires to him. So you quit working on the Pollinator before you tried that draglink? After I drug that thing 400 miles to get it to you? Geez!

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
MOPAR ????? Thats the bottom of the food chain in my book!! Now that the chassis is up on rubber, the attitude is where it needs to be so that I can go ahead and weld that stuff up, maybe today or tomorrow after that swap meet!
I may sacrifice the old drag link for bending or whatever before I attack the new one. ws |

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
Didja recouperate yet? Man, that was a long haul single handed. I used to run 16 hours to New Orleans alone when I was working on the Hatteras. That was a LOONNNGGGG trip to get there and live on a boat with no running water or AC (in the summer!!) in the ghetto, right after the big hurricanes of '05 ... Katrina and Rita. The boatyard was between two
"rival factions" (like those folks even knew how to spell that!) and they would shoot TOWARDS each other from a mile away. I literally heard bullets wizzing through the air. Go out for dinner and the national guard would be >"profiling"< a Donk load of gangsters every block or two. I was never so glad to get that boat back to Chicago where I at least spoke the lingo! ws This was 5 miles inland This a casino on a barge in Biloxi. The surge lifted the whole thing UP and OVER the street lites right next to it! Its resting on the land side of the main drag along the gulf! The flora and fauna grew up overnite like being "in country"... sure didnt go out after dark down there! The counter insurgents could smell you coming! |

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
When I was in the land of Rice and water buffaloes I could drive a 5 ton 6 by 6 day and night thru dust and mud, up hill and down hill dodging RPG, mortars, rockets, and small arms fire. A lot of days lasted 48 hours and if we slept at all it was on top of our loads with a m-16 beside us and a bandolier under our heads. If we covered ourselves it was with a poncho. When we did end up having to sleep in the mud our immersion foot would start up and the dysentery hurt like hell and never let up. We put sand bags and our flak jacket under our seat in case the little b_st_rds had put mines in the road. Our trucks were wore out and we grabbed diesel fuel where we could find it. We cooked C-rats with C4 and if we had to diesel fuel. Our stoves for cooking was made out of C-rat cans with holes cut in them. OK I'll quit. But the thing was I was 19 years old and weighed 137 lbs fully dressed.
Now I'm 61 years old and weigh 262 lbs and driving 7 hours on paved roads on a dry sunny day after 8 hours of sleep, eating good food damn near killed me. Last night I got home and sat back in my recliner with a windsor on ice. Turned on the fireplace and watched my 40 inch flat screen color TV. The dog laid by my feet and all I could think about was how I wish this winter was over and if I was sitting on my tv remote or if it had fallen down between the cushions. After awhile I fell asleep and when I woke up my ice had melted. But the glass is still half full. |

Re: Jetzt, da der Staub gelegt hat, seine Zeit bei der Arbeit
Got up this morning and left at 0600 for the 2 hour drive to West Bend for the swap meet... Touted as an antique auto parts swap, youd figure at least pre war parts... However, antique car stuff now constitutes just about everything excluding 90s and up japcrap.
Ran the usual gamut of piles of dual quad tunnel rams and chinese tools to only find a radiator cap for $5, a pair of Starrett layout dividers, and 2 free cans of spray paint (1 white and 1 primer). Total spent was $10.00 plus admission. Kind of a wash. Theres another one March 18 in Fondulac, Wi which hopefully will draw more older stuff from the flatlanders and northlanders. Tomorrow we kick booty and do some finish welding on the front end bones and wing it from there. I did order some retro lug nuts off edog today. Right now those green wheels are held on with 2 nuts on flat washers finger tight to not bust up that great paint job. Heres a link to the nuts... Some times being off the grid is a good thing! ws http://www.ebay.com/itm/230739196981...fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 |
