Default Gas guage slip rings

Just wondered how many brass slip rings you fit I normally fit two but maybe one would be enough . I have found 3 or 4 which does seem overkill .

John same place same weather .

Correct. I typically order an extra ring at the same time, or make sure there’s one in the gauge I can re-use.

The reason for using extra slip rings is to compensate for thinner gaskets than Henry used. The assembly could bottom out on the tank threads before there is a crush on the gasket. This will cause a fuel leak.
