Default Wheel color

Has anyone come up with a powder coating color similar to Aurora red. like everyone else I’m having trouble telling the powder coating company what color I want. The powder coating company that I’m going with uses RAL powder coatings. Any help would be appreciated. Jerry

The Model A Ford paint and finish guide by MAFCA would be your best resource. You could purchase it or the local club may have one you could borrow. It has color plates in it to allow the painter/coating Company to see the color for a better match

I wanted to try powder coating some '31 wheels Aurora Rd a couple years ago, but the local powder coating shop only had a stock red that was NOT a good match to Aurora Red. They told me that they would have to custom mix a match that would have been very expensive, so I just painted them Aurora Red and got a good match for a lot less $. Maybe you will have better luck than me?

Les Schwab tire used to powder coat wheels and had a good red. Their web site says they still do it. Maybe check with them and see if they have a sample to share.

Be sure to get some touch-up paint to match the powder coat color. Power coating is not impervious to scrapes and especially from tire irons.

If you contact modelawheelcolors.com they can help you out. I am going to do Aurora Red for my '30 and they were very helpful with sending me a Technical Data Sheet to discuss with my powder coater. I haven't done it yet but a guy in my club ordered powder from them, had Les Schwab do the application, and it seems to have worked well (I don't remember what color, though).

From what I understand, a bit of the powder dissolved in acetone makes a reasonable touchup paint.

RAL 3004 that I have on my wheels matches the sample in the old paint and finish guide. Note that RAL is a universal color coding system, not a manufacturer's brand, so any powder coater should be able to get it in that color.
