1936 Rear window gasket question

This may sound like a silly question, but where should the 2 ends on a 1936 5W rear window gasket meet? Should the seam be at the top of the window or the bottom? Also, is anyone applying window sealer to the window gasket groove itself (sealing gasket to window) or just applying the sealer to the body then setting the window in place?
