Question ID. of engine head 77-6050 A

I am wondering if the engine in my newly gotten 1936 ford is correct for the car .the only numbers Ii can see on motor are on the heads 77-6050A. they seam to be for a 1937-8 motor. I thought it might be a late built can.

With those heads, it is '37 or early '38 engine block/motor and not originally used in a '36 as there were other significant changes under the hood that would have to have been made (and were not made) to a '36 to accommodate those cylinder heads.

Thanks David, I found that head number in an Early ford v8 club book and it says it is a 1937 truck motor, Who knows what happens in the life of an 85 year old car.

In most cases, many, many things, lots of which aren't in 'the book'.

I am pretty sure the 77-6050-A cylinder head was also used on passenger cars in 1937 when they switched from aluminum to cast iron cylinder heads.

You are correct, Zeke. The flathead in my '37 had heads with the "77" designation...

The "77-6050-A" marked heads are generally the 21-stud heads that have the firing order cast into them. Some folks think these heads were Canadian in origin, while others have heard that they were cast in Dagenham and used on the later Ford "PILOT" engines, even though they're marked as "USA". Whichever, about fifteen gazillion of them have been available for years as surplus. Do the heads in question on your '36 have the firing order cast on them as seen BELOW? Coop
