Default Stopped making 1933 1934 Ford Running Boards and Grill

Does anyone know why Bob Drake stopped making the 33 34 Ford running boards and grill. Seams like there is still a market for them. Unused examples going up for sale are bring really good money.

Sounds like the old days before Drake was making them. When 32 boards were available, 33-34s were not, and vice versa. The dies for the 34 grille may be worn out or in need of repair.

I seem to recall reading that something happened to the dies for the '34 grille and it would be incredibly expensive to fabricate new ones.

I recall the same thing as itslow states, that there was something wrong with the dies and because of a lack of sales Drake decided not to repair them.

Drake is having the 1934 grille (different than the 1933) and the 1933-34 running boards made in Taiwan. I don't know the true numbers but he needs to order around 500 to 1000 grilles at around 1000.00 to 1500.00 a pop. Cash up front. Again, I don't know Drake's estimated sales numbers but likely 25-50 a year at 2000.00 to 2500.00 each. So do the math (at 10% or so interest a year compounded) to see how many years it will take to break even on the deal. Similar situation with the running boards.

Remember the old one about how to make a small fortune racing cars... start with a BIG fortune!

Recently I went looking for '40 Ford Pickup parts from Bob Drake. They had a beautiful catalog full of parts a couple years ago, but now they literally have 5% of the parts they once advertised. I kind of assumed they are winding down either the business, or the early ford parts.

I see Notingham is still producing the '33 grills. Has a one year delivery date. Rootlieb makes the hood but if I remember correctly it is missing the rolled detail edge at the front.

I saw one of his 34 grilles still in the box go for $4700 plus 10 percent fee at a local auction last month!

Someone from Australia had 34 grilles at Hershey in the Chocolate Field. As I am in the market for one. and they looked perfect, I inquired and the price was $5,000.00.
