Air conditioning
What ballpark should I expect to pay to have under dash air installed in the '59 Edsel?

Re: Air conditioning
I installed my own in my Model A, combination heater/AC, for a little under $1,500. It's a modified "Old Air" unit.

Re: Air conditioning
I was quoted 1350 from a Rod shop here local and had no idea if that was good or bad.
I could do it, but would really rather not. They said the hard part is brackets and pulley for my engine. |

Re: Air conditioning
Their correct. the parts to make it happen are hard to find. Vintage Air is selling a different hose kit. A little more cost. But your fittings do not have to be crimped. You can run from the unit to the compressor and drier without a fitting at the firewall. Hose is much smaller in dia. than the regular hose. Your able to make smaller tighter bends in the hose. In case you wanted to know

Re: Air conditioning
Probably marginal at idle. You've got the condenser fan load, the evap fan load, and the clutch on the compressor. This assumes an electric fan on the condenser. But if you put a volt gauge in (or have an ammeter), you can always turn it to low or off if your stuck for an extended period. Moving, with the engine speed up, you'll be fine. A/C and power accessories had a lot to do with the change from gen sets to alternators.
