Default Things forgot about when it came to judging...

What were some of the things you forgot to do or put on your car or truck just to get those extra points when it came to judging time at a local or national MARC/MAFCA meet?

I must have forgotten a number of things when I had my Huckster judged in the Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance. This is the first time I had my Huckster judged in a "major" show. I did get a second place plaque in the class I entered but they had no first place in this class because no one entry produced enough points to get first place. So guess under these conditions second place is not to bad.

This show is one of the finest on the west coast for classic cars. They show some million dollar stuff, beautiful automobiles. They have some modified stuff but most of the show is classic autos. This year the featured Mercedes-Benz having cars from any years of Mercedes. The featured car was a 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300SL W194. This car was a winner in the 24 hours of Le Mans. The oldest car there was 1896 Riker Electric. It was being shown by the grandson of the original designer. Great little car-10MPH max, 40 mile range on batteries.

Sorry Steve, didn't mean to steal your posting. But due to the fact I did not get first place in my class at this show, I must have forgotten something. But not being a show person, was a fun show anyway.

I can't remember who he was but he forgot his tools and didn't find out until he got across country to the meet. Someone from back home had to overnight them to him!

I'm not really saying anything. I've never been in serious judging.
I just have a "thing" about the over-restored cars with their mirror like paint jobs. No Fords ever looked like that, off the line. They are just as incorrect as a poorly painted car.

YOU must have one of those over-restored cars. That is who defends them.
Are you telling me that Henry Ford allowed the workers to spend as much time in painting the cars, on the line, that you have in the painting of yours ?
Sure, the originals, have a nice shine, but .............

I forgot to remove those rubber CAPS from the hood latches ..you know the ones to protect your paint job for a short time.... 1 judge told me i used electric tape [not the cloth type which would of been correct for that time frame..I had it wrapped around the light bar for the license plate brackets not to scratch the paint.. All at A.A.C.A. National meet... Next meet they were all off.. rubber cover too on the starter button , Don't want to ruin that fresh cad. plate look. L.O.L.

no need to argue with him Mark. Obviously he has his mind made up, was there in 1928, or has extensively researched the surviving originals. He also has been in fine point enough to know that over restored paint does not garner full points, base clear won't either, nor will 20 coat lacquer...oh wait, he's not serious about fine point and chooses to insult from the cheap seats. Just turn on the twit filter and ignore him as he should choose to ignore me.

Come to think of it, I forgot to take my sock off of the breather tube and oil cap when I went into start and Idle. Someone judging engine compartments commented to me "nice sock on the breather!"
