Post Points, rotor and timing

I am having trouble trying to figure out how to change my points, rotor and set timing with the 59A's "diving bell"type distributor. Any documentation or procedures would be super helpful

Thanks Scott

Well, while aware that a 59A should have a crab type unit, you wouldn't call it a divers helmet type if it was a crab, so I'm guessing you have a later engine in an earlier car.

Ford intended the distributor to be removed from the vehicle and set up on the bench. It is best to remove the unit, dismantle it and put it back together using the new parts. It would be a good idea to put shrink tube over the distributor shaft while it is apart. It should then be set upn on a timing jig, but if you don't have one, try setting each set of points to .015" and the timing heads up on the marks. Once fitted to the motor the timing can be set by ear. If you have a decent timing light and a TDC pointer you can use that.

Mart.
