A simple method of breathing a late block with early manifold is, remove the vent tube from the front of the valley and cut an inch off the top. Reinstall with Loctite.
Use an early, vented fuel pump stand with vented cap.

Denny (tubman), we should have kept the 2 strips of concrete....less snow to shovel and MUCH CHEAPER to pour........

This is exactly what I did with my engine 25 years. The inside is as clean as when I built it. Absolutely no sludge build up in over 60,000 miles.
