48` F1 Steering Box
I just purchased a 48` F1 steering box and it had a 10ga black wire coming out thru the bottom end plate of the box. The hole looked factory as it had a small beveled ferrule for the wire to slide on so as not to cut it. I will not need this for my application. So what was it for and any suggestions as to plugging the hole to keep the grease in? Thank You.

Horn wire? There should be a tube inside the box the wire passes through. No need to plug it. You don't need a horn?

Re: 48` F1 Steering Box
You can use some good quality sealant to fill the bottom of the tube. Some Gemmer II boxes just have a solid plate there but I don't see any reason to look for one if you can plug it yourself. The top of the horn wire tube is high enough that lube shouldn't ever leak out but the tubes have been known to crack & seep now and then.

Re: 48` F1 Steering Box
The 48-52 boxes have the bottom plate with a tube soldered to it for the horn wire pass up thru to the button at the top. It goes high enough so the grease will not leak thru it. They do leak if it has cracked or is gone completely.
