Default Front Spring To Crossmember Pad?

Front Spring To Crossmember Pad? Was there any such thing in 1941? I removed my front spring, and when I went to replace it I realized there was a piece of padding stuck to the underside of the crossmember. I've had some earlier cars and never remember seeing such a thing. Possibly a previous owner addition, or a Henry Ford improvement?

Thanks very much. My Model A didn't have one one, and whether they also had them originally is incidental now since the 1941 is my only older truck.

Make one out of .090 aluminum and it will not absorb moisture and rot away.

Yep, through 1948 all springs received an anti-squeak pad. It was a heavy (dense) woven material. My guess, cotton and soaked in some type of oil or Cosmoline.

No. It is perhaps about 1/8"+ thick when new. It is definitely woven - no doubt for strength & durability. Most places like C&G, etc. sell them. About $3 each.
