Default Need help pricing 5 wheels.....

Hi folks - Sorry if this is inappropriate. (Delete if necessary mods - just don't remember the exact rules on this forum.)

Need help pricing 5 19" wheels. They have been stripped and are wet zinc'd and powder coated Tacoma Cream. Powder coating job is sub standard, but look good from 5'.

Wheels have pitting, straight spokes, holes not wallowed out, run true and straight.

Noticed some pitted, bent, wallowed wheels sold on Epay for $75 each. Not sure that is a true indicator of value though.

IMO you would have a hard time getting $100 a wheel. I noticed 5 red ones with tires on Ebay in the last week and I they have been on at $500 and did not sell. If you really want to sell them, I would guess you could get $50.00 to $75.00 a wheel and probably sell them. What you have described is a half way decent powder coated wheel.

Stouchton,
I may be interested if they are really straight and true. Have you checked them for run out?
Bill

Hi Bill,

they were originally on my car, and would scamper up route 100 at 50 to 55mph smooth as silk.

Before powder coating, out of curiosity I mounted each one on the driver side front and simply held a ruler against the bumper and watched the in/out and up/down variation. Didn't see anything exceeding a 1/8th inch and really think it was closer to 1/16th.

However, money back guarantees rule - and you are close which makes that very easy.

The only issue with the wheels is the pitting. One is pretty bad, other 4 not too bad. They were show quality painted wheels until the powder coater
forgot about stripping them gently to see what was underneath

Also - valve stem holes are all good.

I recall that incident. I think it best to make some secret mark on the rims to be sure you get your own rims back. Also take good closeup pictures of any marks that could help ID the rims. Price is anyone's guess, but as OK driver wheels they should be worth at least $50 each. I'm a little bit fussy about parts and the first one might have to be yard art.

That one is pretty rough - yard art made me laugh! Glad the pics showed the true condition.

I'll update that incident soon - moral of the story is that I ended up happy with beautiful wheels, but it was more about one guy making it right than the shop itself.

For some reason I can't see the pics anymore??

Stouchton,
Thanks for the reply and pictures. Sorry to put you to the trouble but I initially didn't catch that they are 19s. Won't do my 28 Tudor much good. I am looking for better wheels though. One of mine is quite pitted and they all have about 1/16-1/8 runout.
Thanks, Bill

I've seen that happen before. Like my Dad used to say, "you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear." What where they thinking to return something like that?

Just a FWIW, powder-applied paint can be sanded and used as a great substrate for painting over. Sand most of the powderpaint down and then spray 2k Urethane over the top for a nice set of wheels.

Just to bring closure to the thread, the wheels have found a new home.
