Default Oddball Model A hubcap

Here's some images of a hubcap I found in a box of parts I had taken off a '31 Ford Town sedan many years ago. The size fits on the 19" Ford wheel. It appears to say "Boot" or "Bool" or "Boob" where it should say "Ford". Obviously an old aftermarket part, but who the heck is Boot? ... I shot the cap with gray primer & wiped it to help show the lettering a bit. It's in tough shape.

A cheap repro getting around the use of the word FORD for copyright reasons. If I remember correctly it is BOOL. Try the archives.

I have several that have "Food" in a nice Ford like script, I plan on using one as part of a lid for a manifold cooker

I bought a set of "Bool" hubcaps for my 1st A back in 53.I think they were about 25 cents each. You could still buy caps from Ford, but they were costly.

Thanks Charlie , Clem, and all, I should've checked the archives first. There are other posts about the Bool caps. I've never heard of them.

The script on mine are very fancy, but I think that they say Fool. Dad ordered allot of A stuff from Warsharsky's (spl)? back in the day. I may keep them and have them refinished. Kinda a conversation piece.

Think mine came from J. C. Whitney in the 1950's.

Remember Model A Points at that time were (26) cents.

J.C. also advertised front & rear steel fenders in their catalog -- can't remember prices for same.

The story is that back in the day some company made replacement hub caps with the Ford script without paying royalties fees. Ford did not like that, so instead of scraping all the hub caps they made a new die and re stamped the Ford to read Bool or Fool.

I have a friend with a '20 Dodge Brothers Touring with 30-31 Model A wheels and no hubcaps. Obviously he couldn't (wouldn't dare) run Ford caps so I rounded up 5 Bool/Fool caps and had them chrome powder coated for him. Worked great and if anyone gives him crap about Ford caps he can get them to bend over and take a closer look, and while they are down there he can kick them in the butt! He loves 'em!

Warshawski Auto Parts is around to this very day, doing business as "J.C. Whitney".

Actually, for a while, he existed under both names. This apparently to get past any discrimination on account of his name.

Back in the day I've seen catalogs (he used to have an actual catalog mailed to your door similar to Harbor Freight - maybe still does) that were IDENTICAL except one was Warshawski and the other Whitney.
