Default 32 Gas Tank filler leak

I just know that someone has a good fix for gas leaking out of the filler area on a 32 Tank.
Everyone I talk to with a 32 has the same problem, but somebody has to have figured out a fix?
That is:
Gas leaks around the cap.
Who's got the answer?
Thanks
Jim

If you are using the original tank sending unit it was intended to be used with a non-vented cap on the filler neck.

Yeah - me too! I figured it was related to the cap itself . . . but have not spent any time screwing with the cap to provide a better seal.

It is the cap, pure and simple. The proper cap is non vented and liquid tight.

I'm using a Stant nonvented. I added a rubber seal replacing the cardboard. It leaks. You have a part number of a cap?

I bought my cap from Bob Drake about 15 years ago. It has a rubber type gasket. Never any spillage except when I forget to put it back on after a fill up. The spillage is preceded by the sound of a cap hitting the road.
An aluminum beer can makes a great emergency cap. Just cut one end off with your pocket knife. It's an interference fit over the filler neck.

I use a Model A style cap on my '32 streetrod. I make a gasket from the red plumber's rubber gasket material and add to it. Cut way down on the leaks.
The Model A style cap has a little bit more "skirting" around the cap. Pat

Maybe the Drake cap is the answer, but I'm not sure that his are any better, unless are made by a better supplier

I saw an old 32 that had a piece of exhaust tubing tacked to the bottom of the cap. Owner said it kept the gas from splashing out. I JB welded a piece of tubing to a Stant cap and it still leaked.

Had an original and use a motorbike inner tube section over cap and neck which helped stem the flow greatly. But fitted one of Bob Drakes v8 embossed caps and now have zero leaks after 2000 miles.
