Tyres
The last container of tyres brought in by our local seller were all sold before they arrived - probably due to the supply issues we are experiencing across the board. I need tyres on my '29 tourer and the Ute (21"). If I can buy from a US supplier, I can get them here but I don't know the US market.
Where would the forum suggest I go to buy? The closer to LA or Indianapolis, the better as I have a shipper in both of those places. Naturally, I'd prefer free shipping to my shipper's depot. Thanks for any help.

Re: Tyres
Hi Arnold ,
I bought my tires from Lucas Tires in LA. I highly recommend them . They went out of their way to help me with shipping the tires. I had them Air freighted. I am not sure about Sea freight though. When they arrived in Australia I had a local freight Forwarder do the import paper work and arrange for delivery to my door. It was not a cheap exercise though. You may want to wait for the next shipment to arrive in Australia by Antique tire Supply in Melbourne. You could search the other Antique tire suppliers in the other Australian cities , I am sure it would be more economical than importing the tires yourself. The only reason I went the import route was that I wanted Goodyears and no one sells them in Australia. Mark.A |

Re: Tyres
you might have better luck with the European classics, as Germany is the owner
and shipping might begin over in that direction......... |

Re: Tyres
You might try Dave Bockman in Visalia, California. He sells the European Classic tires that seem to be working out nice

Re: Tyres
well, here's my opinion.... We had a new pair of 21 inch Excelsiors ( when touring Aus) and they were dreadful-much too flexible sidewalls- kept getting flats ...but that was 14 years ago.....perhaps it was a bad batch. Can't remember the name of the place we got the Excelsiors from but I recall they were in north Melbourne.

Re: Tyres
Aren't flats caused by road hazards rather than the tire? Other than blow-outs I can't see it.

Re: Tyres
That's what I thought until that holiday! Whatever the combination..... front/rear/left/right/old tube/new tube/excellent wheel/dubious wheel/hot day/cold day the only consistent factor with the tube splitting was the brand of tyre-Excelsior. ( PS I've just looked back at my diary ... we did 6000 kms with the 2 Excelsiors and got 6 flats from them in that distance. No calculator needed....averaged a flat from each Excelsior every 2000kms ). I’ve had Excelsiors on Austin 7s without any problems, and friends have had them on Model As ( 19” admittedly) without incident. Were those that I had from a bad batch? Or were they simply not up to the job? I don’t know.

Re: Tyres
There is an old and true saying about "You get what you pay for". The Excelsiors are much cheaper than say, Firestones so I doubt the quality will be there.
Still no contact details for Dave Bockman..

Re: Tyres
Thanks, Gil. I'll try ringing him and I'll come back to you if I don't do any good for an email address. Email might be slower but the message waits for the time difference to pass. We are 17 hours ahead of you on the west coast of the US.
