Let's start adding some Model "A" passenger car images to this thread.

Re: Old Ford Pictures - social group
Tough call, but my money's on grandma and grandpa, with dad snapping the picture while mom's in the station dickering for candy, tobacco, tubes and Cokes. Far cry from "Cracker Barrel" on the Interstate, eh? We'll never know, but we can acknowledge tough times when we see 'em.

Re: Old Ford Pictures - social group
I study a lot of 1930's images of the "common man." Looking into the eyes of the young woman and the three young girls in the second and third images of my post 114, I can only hope that their "A's" carried them safely to their new lives, and that they prospered.

Re: Old Ford Pictures - social group
Yep. All those folks could say "at least we're not in a Chevy." Seriously, though, I suspect that those little "A's" (faded paint, worn pinstripes, mismatched tires, shot upholstery and all) got their owners through more times than not.

Re: Old Ford Pictures - social group
"HOLLAND FOR SENATOR" is in good company. FDR owned and/or drove a number of "A's," as did Averell Harriman and David and Nelson Rockeller. (Actually, the Rockefellers owned the same Deluxe Phaeton... I lack that image, but here are the others.)

Re: Old Ford Pictures - social group
I like this image because my Dad was a police officer in the early 30's.
What are they doing with that coupe top? Whatever it is, it's taken a while; it looks like grass has grown up behind the wheels since the "A" was parked. Typical Model "A" project |
