Re: which method is best for setting the valve clearence?
I have a stock original engine with aluminum pistons. I set everything using the piston travel method using the krw type T guage. Im getting about .026 on intake 1.
I was wondering if i should use the Chaffin method setting all the valves at .015? With the chaffin method how acurate do you need to be with the top openning of each valve? Is it necessary to use a dial indictor or is it not real critical? Same question on finding the exact 360 crank point as there is little reference on the block with the markings you put on the crank pulley |

"What method do you guys think is the best way to set them?" Depends on what cam you have.
"Same question on finding the exact 360 crank point as there is little reference on the block with the markings you put on the crank pulley " Use a gauge on the piston itself to reference the piston position. |

Re: which method is best for setting the valve clearence?
i set them at 0.15 because i have no idea how butchered the block was. If the top of the blocked was planed in the past that changes the cam' setting if you use piston position. i would say set them at 0.15 but you might be more traditionalist than i am.
.... Now that i think about it maybe 0.15 was way too much and should have used 0.015 |
