Default 1953 Ford Sunliner cannot start

Has anyone ever heard of mice building nest in intake manifold? We suspect that is what happened. Engine was sitting on stand for about 12 years and stored a few months in an old barn that had mice. There was no carburetor on the engine all that time except for a couple of paper towels stuck in the two holes on the manifold which I think were not in all the time.

I would say the critters were more than happy to have such a well insulated condominium. It's what rodents do.

If so, I hope the mouse piss hasn't corroded anything internally. Pull the intake and see what you find.

I paid way too much for a 53 Flathead sitting in my neighbors garage under a bench. It was running down the road for a year or two and he pulled it out and put in a 302 , so i knew it was a very good engine.
Tryed to start it and it was baddly broken with tons of engine noise. Mouse piss had eroded two valve stems to the point of breaking when started. Water jackets full of nest material etc. Worse deal i ever made !!!

Quote from "Mr. Jinx" in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon circa 1956 : "I hate meeces to pieces".

How far are you from Beverly Hills, Fl? We live in Pine Ridge which is just outside Beverly Hills. I took everything off and ready to take the intake off and of course is plastered on with paint. I will get the intake off later this week.
