original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
I have made an attempt to install the model a engine in my newly built A chassi. I'm having a rough time lowering it into the rear original motor mounts having installed new mount pads. What is the correct sequence in installing the engine, should the front yoke motor mount be installed and lowered in the frame first then push toward the rear axel.
Any help on this appreciated, Coatings03 |

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
i always wiggle the the rear mounts in first on an angle then drop the front down. with new rubbers its tight but it will go. some like using a frame spreader but i have never had a need to even with new mounts
if your car is supported by the frame say on a lift i would lower it down so it relaxes it |

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
You may have to spread the frame a bit. There is a tool for this, or you can use a bottle jack and some creative thinking. It's easier if the trans isn't in yet. I put the front mount in after the engine is in place but before I release it from the cherry picker.

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
I smear some grease on the mounts and do it as Mitch said.
I only had to use the spreader once, and that was very little spread. |

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
I usually use a frame spreader, borrowed from a friend. Next time I'm going to buy one from Brattons. Good tool to have when you or a good friend needs one.

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
Thanks for your help on this, I have been frustrated. I will loosen the rear motor mounts, apply grease on flat area and spread the frame slightly. let's try it out.
Thanks, Jim M. |

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
I buit a frame spreader, and had to only use it one time. Like Tom said it takes very little, maybe .050/.060.

Re: original motor mounts or Float-a-Motor
I finally dropped the engine in last week. I discovered that the rear engine mounts were reversed possibly the angle was different and would not allow the engine to drop down. I used a floor jack to level the engine which helped.
Thanks for the help from Ford Barn. Appreciated! |
