Re: 1935 vinyl roof insert installation
4 door top is the same as coupe/2 door except longer and more cumbersome.
Other than that, it is not a tough job if you are careful and pay attention as you go. Just be sure you are happy with the lay of the topping before making the final trim with a razor blade. Up to that point you can go back and tune it up. I attached a couple of edited pictures of some posted earlier in this thread pointing out the inner channel where the first layer of fabric is secured. I usually use a light canvas over the poultry wire to provide good smooth support for the padding. Lately; I have found that billboard membrane makes a good first layer; my trimmer friend even leaves out the chicken wire when using the membrane. |

Light canvas is normally used over the wire: I used heavy sign/banner/billboard material instead of wire last couple times; this material could also be used over wire if using it as an antenna. I used foam as padding; but cotton or polyester batting is commonly used also. I used marine vinyl for the topping; more original type material is (or used to be) available from the Model A parts dealers. I used Carpenter's rubber retainer strip. |

Here is a picture of the material when he used it on a Model A another friend and I built for for his son, along with one with the material over the wood bows in my coupe. |
