That is very cool. When I was a kid in the 70s, my Dad found a box of 1943-1950 or so Sat Evening post magazines in an abandoned farm house. I read every single one of those (mostly the jokes and just looked at advertisements). The cool off time cover I absolutely remember. Thanks for posting!!

Dated 5 days after the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and posted yesterday on August 11. I have always been fond of Norman Rockwell's work. I know little of impressionists, avant guard, modernists etc, etc. I just know what I like and Mr. Rockwell has always summed that up for me. Thanks so much for posting.

Gary, couldn't agree with you more and am also a fan of Norman Rockwell and the Saturing Evening Post. And, it was during gas rationing, so not a lot of "extra" driving done then!!

The guy in the creek looks like Will Rogers to me. Although he died 10 years before in 1935.

Fifty years ago, I knew a guy who had a sizeable collection of Norman Rockwell art. I believe he lost them in a personal bankruptcy.

Ironically there were supposedly 3 Norman Rockwell museums. One in Stockbridge Mass (closed but reopened) which had the largest collection of original art. And also the location of his studio.
One in Appleton VT and one in Corning NY. I have been to the one in Corning NY.
Great American artist no matter where you see his art. My favorite is the Police Officer with the runaway boy at the lunch counter. It tells so much what police officers do -- without saying a word.

That is a good one that I haven't seen. I'm a Norman Rockwell fan, as well, having visited the museum in Appleton, Vermont. He had apparently lived there as well as in Mass.

The magazine has my birth date on the cover.
I would have been 5 years old. WOW.

Now I see it! Waste not, want not. Or as my dad used to say... "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without".

Well, I'd bet that Mr. Rockwell did that for a particular reason, wouldn't you?

One . . . for those of you that are sharp enough to notice!
Another, hmmm. I think I'll use a familiar fill-in face here. No doubt Will would grin when seeing it.
