Default Vacuum wipers question on a '41

When I start my car up the wipers will move/bump for a moment with the wiper switch "off". When I turn on the switch they will sweep to the right but not return. If I work the switch on and off they will work from side to side like they should with quick response. I'm wondering my vac. on/off switch is bad or motor wiper motor needs rebuilding. Thanks for advice.

Sounds like the hoses are on the switch in the wrong positions. Mark them so you don't put them in the same place twice, find the supply hose put it on one of the tubes. Work the switch back and forth. Check with your finger and see which tube has suction on ti place one of the other hoses from the motor. You can tell which way the blades are going to go, when you pull switch out. Go from there until they work like you want them. Al

While you have the supply hose off, squirt some oil in it to lubricate the felt paddle in the motor. Over time, it can dry out and shrink, causing the motor to lose vacuum.

The device that reverses the motor and shuts it off in the proper position is under the small cover at the back of the motor with the motor shaft at the front. If you remove the metal cover you can spray a good lubricant to free up operation and any hardened dirt or grease.
