Default Best way to sell an A?

What have you found is the best way to sell a Model A? (on the Internet). I'm selling my 1930 truck and need some advice.

Ads on Model A club sites, including the national clubs. Nice looking truck. If you put your description and price here in the classifieds it will also reach your target market.

Post it for sale here................
EBAY
'Do you belong to one of the Clubs?? I've also seen some listed on the HAMB.

Me, I parked it in front of the house and put a sign on it. Ditto on car shows and Cruise Nights. Mine went to Italy, fellow visiting here and saw it at a show.

Craigslist isn't bad, either. I think they charge $5 these days.

Park it out in front with a sign that says "FOR SALE $150." It will sell in minutes.

Bought mine off the HAMB.

Just be ready to answer real, potentially technical, questions about the car.

For that truck, because it presents really well and would appeal to someone wanting a turn-key car, I would look at eBay, BringATrailer, even Facebook Marketplace. You want a venue that will reach people willing to pay more for a car with no serious problems, people where it might be their first and only Model A.

Would you suggest an auction on EBAY or a fixed price? I've never sold anything on there before.

They both work. With an auction, you'll get a higher price the more eyeballs you can get on the listing over a couple of days, so if you went with an auction I would also publicize it on the message boards, and in various Model A Facebook groups. You can also set the minimum bid at an auction to a price where you feel comfortable. With an auction you also need to put work in ahead of time to take good pictures (e.g., the undercarriage) and write up a thorough description. If that's not something you feel like doing, fixed price would be better because you could just take questions as they come up without the time pressure.

if you are realistic- use Ebay- if you are overpriced, it wont sell anywhere, esp on the barn!

I just sold a project cabrio on ebay last week. went for a fair price and is going to England. In most cases, I have never been able to sell anything here and 50/50 on CL

Fair pricing will always sell. to the moon pricing is fun to just look at and watch the paint dry.

Use the auction listing on ebay. Because I have sold there many times over the years, I pay a flat 50. whether it sells or not. If it is your first time, it will run around 125. with out add ons and buy it nows and all that clutter. keep it simple and honest.

if you fear giving it away, then pay for a reserve. I personally list for the lowest I would take and let it run..........

I just put 3 more vehicles on. I am happy if I sell 1 out of three or four. Just trying to thin down a bit.

I also work with the buyer on payment loading and time to retrieve. Some auctions want the vehicle gone asap. that often kills the sale because of logistics and financial constraints.

Don't overlook Hemmings Auctions. They get worldwide internet attention and are very aggressive at selling model A's. If it's in excellent shape, you should do real well....and you can set the reserve amount. I don't know what they charge the seller, but the buyer pays about 6% for the auction fee.

I have a friend who has bought and sold thousands of items on ebay since its inception. I recently noticed he no longer had anything listed. He said that ebay has changed their rules. Buyers can now get a refund, no questions asked as well as the sellers being required to pay the return shipping cost. On top of that, ebay also collects their 12.5 % fee no matter what.

Is anyone aware of this change or is my friend confused??

What I saw looked like a Flat fee of either $25, $55 or $95.

goodcar, vehicles have a flat fee- everything else runs about 10% plus 4 % to paypal

so you can sell a 100 grand car and pay only 125. in my case 50.

but try and sell a pair of woodlite headlights for 15k and now you owe nearly 15% on 15k........... yes its nutty, but thez the rules.

I also used to sell car parts there. gave it up for lent about 10 yrs ago. I buy every week and only sell a vehicle every now and then. ebay has shot themselves in the foot many times over, but they have the mkt cornered and you play by their rules or go home.
when considering a venue like Hemmings, that dont have the nearly 6 million audience that ebay has. nor does CL or even an auction. auctions gouge buyers so badly, that you have to be nutz to buy at auction.

OK, my friend dealt with small items, nothing big, mostly antique stuff and anything else he could make a buck on. He lives in the Midwest and sold a Victrola part to someone in New Jersey. They didn't like the item. He had a near perfect reputation score. Instead of making some money on the deal, it left him $75 in the hole.
