Ready to buy tires are Firestone the best?

I bought a cheap set of National blackwalls for our RPU. They were about 400.00 delivered with tubes. They look fine but are probably not correct; though I dont know and am not concerned for my situation. I have not had them long but they hold air and for the type of driving I do, short hops, they work great and saved me money. It is not a show rig.

I was wondering why nobody mentioned Lester tires. I've heard good things about them. My car has Firestone WW tires on my "A". So far, so good after 10 years.

Hey everybody thanks for all the feed back I got a lot of good comments and a lot to think about most of my driving is going to be just short trips around close to home for now to see how the car is going to do so I think that I am going to go with the Firestone's I like the Goodyear tire but at present time just to much for my budget I just don't have deep pockets in this economy right now to spend on my hobby,so I hope that I will be happy with the Firestone's, one question gets me some have said the "size" or "the look" about the Firestone's what are they talking about? What does this mean? I saw one ad say "oversize Firestone's" are they bigger than other tires, will they rub or have any trouble with this tire, I don't have wheel wells just mount on back of Sedan for spare, I know a lot of guys run these tires so sould be alright? I had a tire man, who also had "A" Models, tell me that Coker tires were very poor quality, even though they looked right. He thought they were a joke.

It was tubes not tires that caus the flats.

Those are what I used before I got my Firestones. They are on the car in my avatar picture thingy. My only complaint was that they were terribly out of balance. The guy in the tire shop said he'd have to double stack the stick-on weights to do the job.

The nice thing about them, besides the price, is that they have the widest tread width available for 21" tires. I immediately noticed my new Firestones seemed more drifty. They also have the largest diameter, which was a plus for me--cheap way to get more top end. I don't have wheel wells but I doubt they would fit.

I have excelsiors on my 28 Special coupe.. Am very pleased with them.. Also have Firestone blackwalls as well on my 30 Tudor.. THe excelsiors wear like steel, but the Firestones seem a bit softer, and might wear faster.. I'm in a touring club, so we'll see how the Firestones hold up

I often wondered that too. I understand they are kind of a pain to pour into the valve stem.

My Universals were bought back around 1990. Perhaps not a representative sample, or manufacturing may have improved--or gotten worse. Please let me know what you think if you try them.

I guess that I wasn't too clear in describing a "tire-man". This fellow ownes a tire shop in Daytona Beach, Fl. He really did not think much of those tires that he bought.

If a guy wants originality, the Firestone name was on most Fords since Mr Ford was related to them.

I've never had a tire yet that lasted as long as I wanted it to. We are lucky they last any time at all the way we treat them.

If it weren't for guys like Corky Coker we wouldn't be able to get many of the odd sized tires at all.

Corporate greed says if it don't make shed loads of money don't make it.

I have Firestones on the rear and the appear to be wearing a little fast. I purchased a set of Denim WW tires for the front ($145.00) and they seem to be doing fine at this point at about 1200 miles. They are also about $30.00 to $40.00 less than Goodyear or Firestone...time will tell.

Well I ordered a set of Firestone's today from Coker tire they are the blackwall hope they will do good on the car hope that I will like them, this has been a great post very helpful to me and I am sure to others so keep posting comments it is all good stuff love to always hear how products compare with other products so you can make a informed choice well thanks everybody Robert DeBord
