Default 66 mustang coupe project what is it worth?

I have a 1966 mustang coupe project It is complete. reads 65,000 starts and runs great. Body's ok no rot looks like a little filler in drivers side rear 1/4. v8 3-speed stick. Whats it worth no photos. this was a driver taken apart for restoration. Maybe I could trade for a model A project.

Unfortunately it’s probably not worth much as a whole. Since it’s apart you would do better to part it out. You did not say if anything was rebuilt or at what stage the project was so I'm assuming that is just as you got it but apart. Coupes are not rare and can be had as a decent runner for a few thousand so unless yours is well optioned or has some uniqueness I would guess $1500.00 for the project. If you have rebuilt components to go with it the price may go up.

Have a great day,

Joe

Between my sons and myself,.. we have a few fastback 66-69 Mustangs around,... I hate to tell you this, but the Fastbacks and Convertibles seem to be the "honeys" right now,... you might be able to find a trade for a Mod "A" project. But I would suggest to at least hang it all back together in one clump first.

Or, A friend of mine had a Coupe and bought a really rusty 66' F/B and grafted the roof and quarter tops onto the coupe,... I don't have any pictures,... it it was looking pretty decent !

Not the car in question,.. but here is someone doing the same thing with a 1967 Coupe to Fastback Mod.,..... If you decide to do something like this,... it's a lot of work,.. and you have to really prepare for it before you make that first cut..... (P.M. Me before you cut up your coupe)

Amazing how these cars have become so collectible.

I sent 2 to the junkyard in '74 - a '65 fastback, toasted 6 cylinder stick, and a well-optioned '66 coupe(289 a/t, factory underdash a/c unit, p/s, I think a console) that ran but smoked bad - because I couldn't give them away. Think I got less than $100 for both cuz I pulled some parts off them.

Had a '65 convert 289 4bbl/4spd - a real gem but very rough - bought it for $50 in '75 and drove it home (barely), rebuilt most of it & ended up selling it in '82 for $1500 cuz I lost my job and had 3 kids to feed. Probably the only car I've owned that I hated to sell. But the kids were more important at the time.

Also had a '66 coupe, 289 4bbl a/t vinyl top. Paid $75 for it in '73, had the driver door & fender replaced from a junkyard. Drove it off & on till about '80 & sold it for $500.

I had a 64 Mustang and was force to pasrt with her. I really miss her as she was so much fun to drive. The good thing is that all of the parts are still out there (orig/repo) and the Mustang Clubs are just like the Model A clubs full of people willing to help.
Unfortuanely, Middletown is probably right at the $1500 price range for a car that is in pieces. Why not keep her and get a Model A? The resto price is going to be about the same.

My Buddy was building a 40 Ford Coupe in the 70's,.. We bought a 67 "S" code Fastback
390/4V 4spd,... with all the options including the floor & overhead counsel and disc brakes for $250.00,..... I took the 390 & 4Speed,... He took the 9" traction lock and the disc brakes,... and the rest went to J&D auto salvage,.......

A beat 66 289 3 speed stick should fetch at least 2 grand disassembled, and you may or may not have a decent car for that price, If you have a good running engine, decent trans, good interior, it goes up. There are a lot of things that drive the value of a mustang body: condition of the flooring, the condition of the trunk and inner panel sheet metal, the condition of the shock towers, the condition of the rear frame extensions. Almost every part is repopped for these cars, clean stick coupes from 65 and 66 are still worth decent money. I bought and sold the heck out of these things when I was a kid, If those critical parts were good and rot free I could spin a car and make a profit, less body work, so you want to highlight them. Whether the car is assembled or not does not really drive the price down if it needs to be restored anyway, if a car was complete and in good shape I didnt really care as long as she could roll onto my trailer. You sure would hope to have a numbers matching title as well. You say it is running, I would start a runner in good unit body condition at 4500 if she could run about a bit. any one who buys her would restore her anyway, if you could hang the metal back on her it would open the field a bit more, its really all about that subframe to those of us who know.

Just in case you decide to build it,... here is some motivation for you !.
They can be really cool cars,... And If it's as good as you say, Not that expensive to build, besides, they make everything for it !

My sons car (The F/B above) runs and rides great,... and there's room for his family.
