Default 36 with crab distributor wiring

I converted my 36 to a crab distributor and manifold mounted coil. Originally had one wire to the coil on the distributor. How do I wire the new configuration? Thanks.

Hey Tim...Easy, peazy! Follow the drawing below. Assuming you are still 6v, POS GROUND, the wire between IGN SWITCH and COIL should go to the NEG post on COIL. POS Coil wire should land on DISTRIBUTOR terminal. Coop

That's an excellent drawing Coop - what is different in the case its 12 volt negative? I will be dealing with that soon on a project I have.

Thanks,
Pat

Coop, the existing one wire that originally went to the coil on the old distributor is the one from the ignition? I’ll have to make one wire then, correct? Just wanted to be sure.

Hey Pat .....In the case of 12v/NEG GROUND, well that's easy, peazy TOO! Of course, NEG BATT to chassis GND (instead of POS BATT to chassis GND). Hot wire from ignition switch now goes to POS + coil. NEG COIL - now goes to distributor. ALL light bulbs need to be changed to 12v bulbs. Old Ford SOLENOIDS regularly operate on 12v for years (or until they don't any more). 6v STARTERS run just fine on 12v, until they don't any more....STARTERS are not polarity sensitive. SOME radios are polarity sensitive. Gauges need to be converted to operate on 6v. Coop

Tim ....It is the one that originally came from the IGN SWITCH, with a RESISTOR usually in the middle, between SWITCH and COIL. Yes - ONE wire between IGN & COIL! Coop
