Default Sisson Electrimatic Choke on a Ford?

I had seen reference to a Sisson Automatic Choke in a book on model A's when I was a teenager. I even had the librarian make a copy for me and I still have it. The other night I googled 'Sisson Automatic Choke' and it took me to ebay and this one in the box for 10.00, couldn't click on 'buy it now' fast enough. Listing said Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge. I had always wondered if it might be the work of my grandfather, Benjamin Burliegh Sisson who had the Ford agency in Wareham Mass until his death in 1928. My dad was only one year old at that time so neither of us knew him. Google says the patent was in 1938, but from my old ad they were available for the A. Has anyone used the type I have on one of our V8s or an H six?

If the 1938 patent number is on the box, I’m guessing you can trace it to the original patent and name of the owner. Freedom of information stuff.

Thanks again to the honorable Petehoovie. I started looking at patents info etc. Pretty involved and quite boring. I did see a reference to the Sisson choke in June of 1923, but this electromatic device I purchased was patened in 1938. I could not find my old ad in my 'archives' but I had a great trip down memory lane just the same. Looks like the ad was printed from a book about the 'Unofficial accessories for the model A Ford'.

I believe that patents expire in 15 years, requiring a renewal to be filed. that would account for those two dates perfectly.
