Default Steering gear bottom seal

On my steering gear, I am using the tube style bottom plate that keeps the oil from leaking into the light switch. Is there any good reason why I should still use the thick cork seal that goes in the at the end of the worm gear?

no need for the thick seal, use the thin gasket on the end piece.

Y'know, I should have seen that too! I can just see myself trying for hours to get the tube installed and wondering why it was so much trouble. I mean the cork came out of there, why is it a problem now? At least I didn't call Don Snyder and complain about his tube! Thanks.
