Non Rotary Type Elec Fuel Pump

I had an electric fuel pump on my first '51 Tudor that worked very good and well, I just kinda liked it. It wasn't what I'll call, a rotary type, one that runs all the time. Rather it was one that when you turned the switch on you would hear a sort of.... pump, pump, pump, and stop. It would of course start up as needed again while driving. I was feeding two 97's with a pressure regulator and never had a lack of fuel. Sorry for this rambling account, but I'm building a similar '51 and am wondering if such a pump is available, this time I'd need one that's 12 volt. Thanks!

Hey Fordy,
Thanks for the response,....... what I mentioned in my post is that I'm looking for what I call, a Non Rotary (for lack of a proper description) pump, one that pumps up and stops, of course coming back on as needed. I had one of these in the past and liked it. Even after one narrows down by stating low pressure and 12 volt, there are a Zillion electric pumps out there. While I continue to search, I am hoping someone here might suggest a particular pump. Thanks!

That sounds like a diaphragm type fuel pump. I had one on an IH truck and also on a Massey combine with the 350 V8. They worked well although on occasion would just stop pumping for no apparent reason. Because of that I went back to the old conventional mechanical pump like originally supplied by manufacturers.

I've used a Stewart Warner 240A for 35 years.
Voltage is supplied from a relay thru a "bump switch" repurposed from an old Crown Vicky

It's running (mounted by the tank) in series thru the same old 8BA pump for all those years with todays pump gas everyone complains about

Lucky, not hardly. I just change the filers on both as part of the yearly maintenance ritual.

I've been using one off and on for 30 years, prices seem all over the map. I think I might have paid $15 for it. If it has a Facet label on it is higher priced. Are the cheap one's cheap knock offs or are they all the same? They look identical.

sounds like Shoebox had one of the old SWs. There are still a lot of them around in various conditions. Really a quality piece, came out stock on the 427 Cobras.

Over a decade ago when I sold stuff on EBay, I could get really big money for those 240A pumps. The Cobra and other sporty guys went gaga over them. Too much pump for my Strombergs though.

I ran an "autopulse" 6V diaphragm pump for years on my flathead with a 4bbl carb. I don't know if they are still in business but I sure liked the occasional click rather than the constant whirring of the rotary pumps. If they are still in business maybe they make a 12 volt version.

Yes the Auto-pulse. I am looking for a spare 12 volt. Anyone know if they are still made? I use a couple of 48 carbs and they like that low 2/3 psi pressure.
New gas is hard on the diaphram.

Well, I've been following all the responses here, Thanks Guys, and I have continued searching "12v low pressure" electric fuel pumps,... Yikes a lot out there! Based on what I remember from over 20 years ago, appearance wise I believe I had an Airtex pump, something like an E8012 but,.... the jury is still out. More input most welcome!

That appears to be quite a quality pump, awesome revues and states that it cycles on/off as needed.What do you have it installed in and do you have it mounted vertical or horizontal ? Thanks!

It is running one of those Chevy motors we don’t talk about. It is mounted vertical on my frame rail in front of my tank. It was one of the few that was still made in the US. I have a regulator in front of my carburetor.
