Re: clutch problem
Mike, I wouldn't give up on that clutch just yet. It is a lot of work to change a clutch disc, you have to pull the engine out! You mentioned that you turned the clevis adjustment 7-8 turns. That is way too much. Turn the clevis back till you get the suggested 1 in. free play. Know what this means by looking in the inspection port and seeing the free movement before the fork hits the fingers on the pressure plate. Also, sometimes when the clutch linkage is all loose, the fork can get hung up and fake you out as to what you are adjusting. Take a deep breath, go back into the adjustment procedure and watch the effect of the adjustment in the free movement of the pedal and movement of the fork in the inspection port. Good luck, Ed

Re: clutch problem
Let the bells ring out and the banners fly, problem solved. I guess patience is a virtue. Went out this morning did the same things we did yesterday, but today it seems to have worked. About 1 1/2" freeplay, trans shifts, no grinding. Keep your fingers crossed for me and THANK YOU for all of your help and suggestions, really made the difference. While I have you on here, doe's anyone know a contact in the Model A club of Canada. Thanks again.

Re: clutch problem
With the model a problems that crop up, suggest you attack one problem at a time as you have done. Very easy to delve into several areas at once.
Good to learn that you are looking for a local club, or at least a local guy you can learn from. Nice work. |

Re: clutch problem
I have had a similar problem, have found that the clutch releases shalf is bent, how could that have happen? The clutch started slipping back in the spring and kept getting worst. I chased the adjustment up and down to no avail. Got the engine out, the clutch plate looks good, measures .360,
