Default Differental rebuild

I am trying to drive out the bearing race on the inboard of the axle housing. I am using the recommended 1/2 inch pipe but I can't seem to keep it on the back side of the race . It is very hard to find the inboard lip on the race with the 3 foot long pipe. Any ideas out there? Also on the outer side of the axle housing there appears to be a bushing on the inside of the housing. Is that correct and if so what is it there for? Jack

if you have a welder, run a bead on the inside of the race let it cool. they come out pretty easy.
