Default 31 S/W gas tank strainer removal

Have a stuck strainer/ spark arrestor that won't budge with the vendor's 4 pronged tool used with a 3/8" drive socket wrench. Car is painted, etc.
Any ideas how to get it out without damage? We tried liquid wrench also.

if you don`t care about the spark arrester. take a good pair of side cutter and get a hold of the top of the screen and twist it out. it will destroy the screen but it will get it out. that is the easiest way.

Patience wins the game without damage. Straight torque with just a wrench is ineffective and damaging on stuck threads. Use an impact driver worked very lightly in both directions, followed by more penetrant, soak time, and repeat several times. It also helps if you have two of those sheet metal removal tools stacked.

I used long nosed needlenose pliers, came right out.
Like pulling teeth, or should I say...tooth.

thank you for the replies; the prior owner removed the screen but the top threaded portion remains and appears to be rusted in solid. The car has indented firewall so no drop in arrestor will work unless we fabricate one small enough in dia. to clear the current opening. Will try more penetrant, etc.
