Model A trailer hitch
I’m looking for plans or ideas for a trailer hitch on a Model A coupe.
While perusing a Restorer index of issues, I found this article on hitches: TRAILER HITCH Gold, John, "'A' hitch with no hitch," illus., drawings and instructions, May-Jun 1960 (5-1) p 23-25 Does anyone have this issue that they might part with or copy the article for me? Or even other plans or pictures? |

Re: Model A trailer hitch
If you haven't already, do a search. There was a discussion here a few weeks ago about hitches, some pictures.

Re: Model A trailer hitch
A few months ago I installed a hitch on my 30 Tudor. I wanted something out of the box and adjustable. Look for Reese #88001 class II. Cost was $130. I had to cut a little off the top of the supplied brackets to allow the hitch to fit under my rear spare and middle tire guard. You will need to drill a few holes in the supplied brackets to mnatch the bolt holes in the bumper brackets. It took a few hours and I needed a helper and a floor jack to support it while installing it. You will need a 1.25 inch tow bar with a 5 inch lift to get it high enough to use. I hauled a small trailer to try it out. It works good.

Fordcrager:
I have not figured out how to put the pictures in the computer yet. I really need to do this. If I cannot, I will send you a hard copy. Send me a PM with your address. The hitch looks almost professional. Vic |

Re: Model A trailer hitch
I bought the one Mac's sells for our '31 Coupe. It replaces the strut. Took about an hour to install. Not technically a trailer hitch, it's billed as a flag holder. We use it to mount a platform for my FIL's power scooter. It sits a little low but does the job. It looks sturdy enough to haul a light trailer as well.
Regards, Jeff

Re: Model A trailer hitch
I got this hitch delivered today. No way to work on putting it in today though, as the garage is waaaay to hot to work out in. The thing is very heavy. Just some random pics. I am not sure if it is the same as Vic in E-TN or not. (Did you get my pm, Vic?).
Anyone use this or similar one and have any photos of the anchor plates to the frame? I have not even taken measurements today as I am fighting a darn eye infection at present and don't want to get down on the garage floor and have something get in my eye as I work on the truck and hitch installation. Hoping this one works okay and does not take much modification to install. Note: The side plates/ears shown in photo 516 are how it came out of the box when I unloaded it. I just laid the hitch on the ground to shoot a photo. I know the placement of those pieces are not correct for mounting the hitch in this photo though. Thanks for any tips. Not sure when I'll get on this project to finish it out. |
