Beware
Here are shots of a "new" aftermarket 1GA-12024 ('46 Ford) coil I purchased from a reputable retailer (via UPS) known to all & supplied to them by a reputable supplier known to all. The retailer has made good with a coil from a different manufacturer. The bad coil was made in China. Need I say more? This still doesn't excuse the supplier from pawning off obviously used merchandise (see bruises around mounting hole). The retailer had no hesitation in replacing the item. And I'm sure the supplier will have some defensible "reason" for providing the used and defective item to the retailer. But, beware and the first question to ask is: "Where was it manufactured?"

Re: Beware
I am making no excuses for the retailer (unknown) but offer only one possible explanation...
It may have been returned "as new" and unwittingly placed back on a shelf. Yes, it should have been checked more carefully is this was in fact the case. if it was knowingly sent like this, shame, shame.

Re: Beware
So it seems, that the off shore manufacturer may not deserve any bad press, and that the damage was done by a previous rough customer.

Agree. I'm just not convinced of the quality of Chinese products.

Re: Beware
I had several NOS 1GA coils that were much cheaper and was heckled by some on here for even offering them for sale. I finally got them all sold for much less than they obviuosly were worth after seeing these. Rod

Re: Beware
The Chinese can and do make quality products. Some of the best tractors are made in China.
The problem is with the American retailers, who tell the Chinese to make the product, as cheap as possible. MIKE |

Just curious, what are the names of the best tractors that are made in China? Last picture I saw out of China they were still using Oxen to pull their plows. They can't even grow enough food to feed themselves.

Re: Beware
The quality of parts is wholly dependent upon what the customer (ie; retailer / distributor / etc) is willing to pay for / accept. If the Chinese manufacturer's customer is willing to accept low quality stuff (for a low cost), that's what they (the factory) will produce.
The Chinese are just as capable of producing high quality items as Americans are, just as Americans are capable of producing as crappy of a product as the Chinese.

Another side to that issue is the folks that accept that inferior quality (think of Walmart and the folks the shop there)...

Re: Beware
Kube,
Are you saying that if I buy an HP Printer at Walmart for less money that at Office Max, that it isn't as good a printer. Whether it is a parts vendor or any other store, you need to compare. |

Re: Beware
Nope, not what I am saying. You buy from places like Walmart and you promote the import of even more crap from overseas. I do realize it is getting more and more difficult to find "made in USA". However, once all of our products come from overseas, do you really believe the prices will remain low?

Re: Beware
The Chinese folks are not to blame. They are grasping the same fundamentals that had made this country strong and wealthy. The folks to blame are the ones that buy strictly on price vs. quailty. Like most Americans, it has become mostly about "how much bigger my house is than my neighbors". Never mind the place was built like crap. It's getting to be a dog and pony show. All for looks. No depth - instant gratification.

Re: Beware
Isn't Walmart accepting a tighter margin on that HP Printer vs. Office Max. That translates to how company #1 or company #2 can 'afford' to treat their employees. Times have changed.
