Piston Question
when the motor is running on a stock model A engine do the pistons come up higher than the deck? Or does the top of the piston head remain level at or below the deck?
Thanks. |

Re: Piston Question
They rise above the deck by about .030" as I recall.

Re: Piston Question
Yes, the pistons do 'pop up' above the block surface (Ford design). Tom is as close as necessary for Fordbarn work...lol

Re: Piston Question
I believe the factory spec was .035". We ended up milling .015" off the top of my Egge pistons to provide adequate piston to head clearance with a .010" decked block and an original Winfield 6:1 head that had been milled .025".
Final piston to head clearance ended up being .050" |

Re: Piston Question
You want to be carful when milling heads to much, some pistons are flat right to the edge, if you mill the head to much the edge of the piston will hit radius in the head. I like Snyder's pistons because the pistons has a big champher on the edge. Walt
