Default 1941 Ford Pickup

What is the difference in the '40 Ford pickup and the '41 Ford pickup? The answer is not "one year" seriously.

The hood front center piece for one thing. The '40 is much narrower than the '41 wide "waterfall" piece. Other minor differences as well involving the dash IIRC. '41 was the first year of the flathead 6.

No V8 on the tailgate for the 41s. Later 41s had the deeper drop front crossmember to allow the 6 to be fitted. There must also be some differences in the hood latching for example the hood latch is further forward on a 6 cyl - I need to get to the bottom of that myself. My hood won't latch with the parts I have.

There is a whole different latching setup for the 6cyl.

I have a 41 pu hood sitting around. A bit rough around the edges but has a center latch assembly and I could take measurements. No idea if it came off a six or V8.

Column shift in a 41 is another difference
The lower chin had a hole for the drain on the 6 cyl radiator that the 40 didnt. 41 inner fenders had a reinforcement plate for the 6 cyl fender support. Battery tray was different.
Heaters were different.

Overall shape they were pretty much the same except for the obvious hood trim

Contact the Early Ford V-8 Club (www.earlyfordv8.org) and buy the Club's '40-'41 ford pickup book. It's only $10 plus shipping and it will give you almost all the details between the two trucks. It's a small book , but it will be the best $10 you ever spent.
My truck is a '41 and some parts will interchange between '40 and '41, but there is a lot of parts that won't. Some '41 stuff is very hard to find.

They say a photos is worth a thousand words, so I have attached two pictures. The Blue Pickup is a 1940 model, while the Red Pickup is a 1941 model. The Grilles are the same, but the trim on the Hoods are different. I hope that these pictures help.
