Lz v-12
I have been approached by a fellow who says he has a LZ V-12 for sale. Before I get to far in negotiations is there anything pertaining specifically to V-12's I should know. I have bought hundreds of V-8's but this is my first V-12. At this time I have no idea of condition. Thanks Bill

Re: Lz v-12
I'm thinkin' it would merely be a V8 on steroids.

Re: Lz v-12
As long as the block isn't cracked, it should be good to go. If you can find out what year it is (they messed with the bore size for several years) Allegedly, the '39's and '48's were the two best HV-12's. My '39 LZ has a '40 HV-12 in it, I'd love to find a good '39 HV-12 to swap the '40 out.

Re: Lz v-12
Good Afternoon:
I may be able to help you out and I am fairly close to you. I have a pair of running v-12's (in cars) that I am restoring and lots of spare parts including blocks. Have been driving my Lincolns for a few years now. They are great cars. Mike L. |

Re: Lz v-12
I understand the later engines are better designed then the earlier ones.

Re: Lz v-12
seller thinks it is a 39 and is complete except for part of a magneto. I will be getting some pics and am pretty sure I will pick it up on Sunday.

Re: Lz v-12
Bill, Now you gota put an l-100 in it. I always wabted to a hear a V12 with one and looked for a rebuildable V12 years ago, but couldn't find one. Just remember one thing A V12 is the only engine you can balanve in all harmonics. One reason Merling stay together in a Reno Mustang putting out over 4000HP.

Re: Lz v-12
I think an aluminum stock intake could be converted to a triple Stromburg 97's Edmonds made an 8:1 set of heads and an L-100, can you imagine that sound.

I thought there was someone who was making speeds parts recently. I could only imagine the sound of an LZ with open pipes, heads, 3X2 or 2X2 intake and nice cam. BTW: Stromberg did make a LZ model carb. You'd have to go with these on that beast! Last edited by Tim Ayers; 02-27-2015 at 09:52 AM. |

Re: Lz v-12
Look for the same things in a V 12 that you would for a V 8. Bore was 2 3/4" for '36 to '39, 2 7/8 for '40 to '41 and again for early '46 to 48. 1942 to very early '46 had 2 15/16". Stroke was the same, 3 3/4" for all engines.

How about just a little "eye candy" for planning purposes? DD

Re: Lz v-12
Not much boost (if any) available from that set up; that blower pulley needs a lot more wrap so it won't slip.
