'35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
Got the EV8 Times today and the rear cover (and an article inside) highlight a '35 pickup, but it appears to have wide five wheels. I'm a newbie to all this, but weren't wide five wheels only '36 to '39? Forgive me if I'm wrong...

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
I have never seen or read anything about a 35 with wide 5 wheels. Maybe someone in the past 77 years changed it over to wide 5's. And, to throw a further monkey wrench into the equation, it could possibly be a very late 35 that had 36 wheels. What is the serial number. That would help, possibly. What do you know about the history of the truck??

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
All I know is what I read on page 49 of the September/October issue of the V8 Times. Doesn't give a serial number or anything. Were wide five wheels put on late production '35 pickups?

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
I saw that when my Times arrived today. I do not think they are actually wide 5 wheels. I looked carefully at those and I believe they are some type of wheel (spoke) covers. The small center cap appears to be the stock '35 type hubcap. The covers fit something like the Lyons(sp?) after market covers but give the appearance of artilary wheels or maybe spider caps. Never saw anything like those before.

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
I notice the fatter wheels and caps too. They look much like the accessory General Jumbo wheels and caps that were so often used on our Fords of the early thirties. They had the smaller wheel lug pattern like the 1932-1935 Ford would have used. The tires in the V8 Times photo look to be a bit more balloon than the 600 X 16 tires that the 1935 should have had on it. I had a set of General Jumbos about 20 years ago that I had planned on using on my 1935 convertible. I ended up selling them at the Portland Swap Meet. These wheels and caps still turn up at the swap meets from time to time. I don't remember the General Jumbo caps as having the 1935 V-8 centers though. The Jumbo caps were small, much like the 1932 to 1935 caps. Don Nicoli's 1935 pick-up's front bumper looked to be a 1936 bumper with the turned down ends instead of the 1935 wrap around ends. Starting with a pile of parts, Don's pick-up went quickly together in four years. Nice job and well done!

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
Yes, I agree with you on the front bumper. It appears to be a '36 passenger car front bumper. I wanted to see a picture with a full front view to make sure before I mentioned that. At this years GNM in Lake Tahoe he had this truck in Touring A which tells me he knows many things on the truck are not correct for '35 production. The '35 and '36 1/2T PU front bumpers looked the same as a passenger car at the ends, but was straight across with no dip in the center. Other light Ford commercial vehicles in '35 and '36 did shared the same passenger car bumpers with the center dip.
Edited to make corrections to '35 & '36 PU bumper descriptions

Re: '35 Pickup with wide five wheels???
Heres a photo of a 35 commercial vehicle with jumbo wheels/tires and the correct straight bumper (50-17757) I saw thid beautiful pickup at Tahoe but should have paid more attention to the wheels. They are not General Jumbos and I don't think that they are standard 35 wire wheels with wheel covers.
